Our group's role is to make the Central Library a "downtown destination". The way I see it, this means that coming to the Central library should be something that people want to do, as an excursion and it becomes a positive and memorable experience. So this includes some basic things like making the library easy to navigate and comfortable. And it also includes things like programs and utilizing space well.
More to post later...
What works well for us? I think we all work well together. We also generate a lot of ideas and see a lot of possiblities for improving the building and our services...but sometimes we have to come back to reality and focus.
What is not working well? It is difficult for us to find times to meet when we are all available (did you notice?). I think we should also communicate more with other committees to be able to collaborate or at least not repeat our efforts.
Do you have suggestions to make the process work better for the teams that start next year? Does this mean the committee is changing?
Has your time been used efficiently? I think Barb is right, that we've been working along and then we have a long period where we can't meet or people are on vacation or there are other projects to work on. So it seems like there is a lot of stopping and starting. It might work better if we had a more consistant timeline (I don't know how this can be achieved.)
What will be the legacy to the Library of this group’s work?
Hopefully, there will be some lasting changes that make the building and our services better. Some possible changes are a touch screen navigational kiosk in the lobby, a popular library, a re-energized teen space, better promotion of events in the lobby and outside the building...and much much more!
